George the Farmer: Meet the storyteller growing young minds

08 December 2025

When Penola local Simone Kain started George the Farmer her sights were set high; creating a world in which consumers understand where their food and fibre come from, and the effort that goes into making it.

Enter George. A fictional farmer who is the star of suite of educational assets about life on the land. From books and videos, to games and songs, today George the Farmer has helped educate over 660,000 kids about farming, animals, food and machinery with their curriculum-aligned classroom resources alone — not to mention millions through their paddock-to-plate videos on the ABC and YouTube.

“I really hope that what I’m producing now is around for years to come and inspiring lots of little kids around the globe to not only discover a love of learning and reading, but close the gap between what kids do and don’t know about where their food and fibre comes from,” says Simone.

“I’m so passionate about agriculture and I love getting feedback from parents and teachers about how George the Farmer makes a difference to the kids in their lives”.

Simone and George the Farmer

Growing up on a farm, and now living on the Limestone Coast, for Simone it’s all about supporting local farmers, and respecting our natural resources, which gives us access to the beautiful, clean, green food we’re so lucky to have here in South Australia.

“I feel really lucky to live here in Penola. We’re surrounded by so much natural landscape and beauty, so many amazing stories, so much history.

Whenever we’re producing new content, I’m working with farmers and we’re collaborating and making sure we’re telling these amazing stories that kids can learn from, but also share how diverse it is here in South Australia”.

With George the Farmer soon hitting the US National Agricultural Curriculum, Simone is taking South Australia’s agricultural story to the world – educating future generations and sowing the seeds for a more connected and sustainable future.
